Kid Lit: Santa’s Underwear

I received this book for free from Sleeping Bear Press at BEA 2016. That fact in no way influenced my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Santa’s Underwear by Marty Rhodes Figley

Published on August 1, 2016.

Goodreads Summary:
It’s Christmas Eve and Santa is busy getting gussied up for the big night. But when he goes to put on his warm, cozy (holey, ragged) Christmas underwear, they’re nowhere to be found! With undies for every occasion, he tries on the rest of his collection. But nothing is quite right. Just when he’s about to give up he find a surprise from his considerate team of reindeer. Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!

My Thoughts:
Little boys everywhere will love this goofy tale about Santa’s missing underwear. Moms everywhere may cringe a little. Santa has a favorite pair of red long underwear that he wears every Christmas night. Sure they’re pretty worn out, but they keep him warm, and it’s tradition. This Christmas, Santa cannot find them. He and the elves look everywhere. Santa tries his other holiday underwear, but nothing is just right. Then a surprise from his reindeer saves the day.

The illustrations are whimsical, and the prose is not lyrical – which makes it very easy to read aloud. I doubt this will become a Christmas classic, but it is a refreshing change from the same overdone holiday stories. It’s silly and fun, and kids will love it. The target audience is definitely boys ages 3-5.

My Rating: 3 stars
