Here are the great books (4-star and 5-star) that I read in October. Click on the book title to open my full review from Opinionated Book Lover.
Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven
Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed “America’s Fattest Teen.” Everyone thinks they know Jack Masselin, too. What no one knows is that Jack has a newly acquired secret: he can’t recognize faces. …the more time they spend together, the less alone they feel.
This book was amazing! The quintessential contemporary YA novel. Read it. You’ll love it. I promise.
Valley of the Moon by Melanie Gideon
Lux is a single mom struggling to make her way when she discovers an idyllic community in the Sonoma Valley. It seems like a place from another time until she realizes it actually is.
This book reminded me a lot of The Time Traveler’s Wife, which is one of my all-time favorite books. I don’t read enough magical realism. The characters and relationships were complex, and there was just enough plot to hold my attention.
The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick
69 year-old Arthur Pepper lives a simple life. But on the one-year anniversary of Miriam’s death, something changes. Sorting through Miriam’s possessions, Arthur finds an exquisite gold charm bracelet he’s never seen before. What follows is a surprising and unforgettable odyssey …to find out the truth about his wife’s secret life before they met.
This humorous and heart-felt story is delightful. The audiobook was such a pleasure to listen to.
Today’s post will be linked up with Modern Mrs. Darcy for her Quick Lit series.
