Forget Disney…We’re Finally Going to “Harry Potter World”

It seems like everyone we know has taken their kids to Disney this past year. I have no desire to take Christopher to Disney World until he’s able to walk the whole thing by himself.
I do, however, want to take him to Universal Studios. Specially, to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

Universal Studios opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter inside Islands of Adventure in the summer of 2010. Two months after Christopher was born. Jim and I are HUGE Harry Potter fans, so we have been dying to go to Hogsmead for the last 5.5 years. And then to Diagon Alley since it opened in 2014.

We almost went once without Christopher, but we couldn’t figure out how to leave him with my family for a day without feeling super guilty since it would have had to be during Thanksgiving weekend. And then my mother suggested we all go a couple of times, but we wanted to fully enjoy the experience and not have to deal with babies/toddlers or strollers.

This fall we finally introduced Christopher to Harry Potter with the first three movies and the new illustrated Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. And he loves Harry! Not as much as we do because he’s a little young to recognize how much more amazing the world of Harry Potter is than other books/movies. But he’s indulging us all the same.

So…after almost 6 years of the attraction being opened, we’re finally going this spring. Jim, Christopher, and I…and my parents, who are almost as big of Potter-heads as we are. And we cannot wait! I got a book about Universal out of the library this week, and we read about Hogsmead and Diagon Alley this past weekend.

The excitement and anticipation will definitely help us get through the remainder of the winter. And we have plenty of planning left to do: hotel selection, tickets to purchase, our day to plan. We’re going for just one day – both parks, so we can ride the Hogwarts Express. But we’ll be staying over in Orlando the night before and the night of. I can’t wait!!!

  1. OMG!!!! I have no desire to go to Disney because whoa crowds. I'm sure Harry Potter has crowds too but I'd gladly put up with them because I LOVE Harry Potter. I really hope to get my son into watching them this year. He was still too scared to watch them but he really got into watching Dr. Who (like he's obsessed with the show). So I figure he'd love Harry Potter.
    I'm so jealous!!!

    1. Glad I'm not the only one opposed to Disney. I do love it there, but it's so huge and better for older kids in my opinion. I want to make sure we don't pay a ton of money for a day of misery. I am very hopeful that Universal won't be like that. And since it's Harry Potter, it will be so much more worth it to me. šŸ™‚

  2. I'm so excited for you! I am disgusted by how far ahead you have to plan disney (but I still want to go there too!) I can't wait to go to Universal sometime…i can't believe you can ride the Hogwart's express. So cool you're going. I'm going to live vicariously through you this spring. Someday…London…https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/
